After School at JQ Upper

BMP Middle/High School Program

Open to 6th - 12th Graders at Josiah Quincy Upper School

The After-School Program at Josiah Quincy Upper School offers students the opportunity to participate in three hours of ensemble rehearsals and one hour of private lessons each week, as well as the option to act as teaching assistants for the JQES before-school program. Over the course of the year, students will:

  • Continue to develop and strengthen technique & musical skills on their instrument through focused instruction

  • Develop social-emotional skills 

  • Explore expanded concepts of composition & compose original music

  • Listen to & learn music from diverse styles & genres

  • Participate in orchestral & chamber music projects

  • Participate in outreach performances & projects

  • Receive individualize instruction through private lessons and small group sessions

  • All middle/high school musicians will be invited to serve as teaching assistants at our JQES before school program from 7:30am-8:30am, 5 days per week.

  • Violin, Viola, Cello, & String Bass

Tuition and Schedule

  • 36 weeks of programming, September - June*
    *BMP schedule follows BPS School Calendar

  • Schedule:

    • Group Rehearsals: Wednesdays 12:30-3:30pm

    • Private Lessons: 1 hour per week scheduled based on availability. Can be in-person or virtual.

    • For those who opt in to the Teaching Assistant/Mentorship program: 7:30-8:30am, M-F

  • Direct transition from school day on Wednesdays

  • Tuition includes string instrument rental

  • Tuition: $1,620/year ($45/week)**

  • $45 registration fee

  • Reduced fee for summer instrument rental
