JQES traveled to Symphony Hall

Updated: Nov 13, 2020

On March 28th, all of the 1,100 students, teachers and parents from the Josiah Quincy Elementary School travelled to Symphony Hall for a concert with the BSO's Youth Orchestra. Led by the Germeshausen Family and Youth Concerts Conductor Thomas Wilkins, these concerts are geared toward students in grades 4-6, acting as an introduction to the full orchestra experience, encouraging long-term ownership of orchestral music and delivering positive character development messages through each performance. Students enjoyed a repertoire by some of the greatest composers, spanning from Rimsky-Korsakov's "Procession of the Nobles", from Mlada, Rossini's "Overture" to William Tell, and Elgar's "Nimrod", from the Enigma Variations.

Weeks ahead of the concert, BMP and guest performers from the Celebrity Series of Boston, Sandeep Das and Mike Block led concert etiquette programs at the school to help students prepare for their trip to BSO. Students, families, and teachers alike had a great experience at the Symphony Hall and all enjoyed their smooth ride on the MBTA!
