Our partnership with the Melvin H. King is more than music. Boston Music Project classes are infused into ELA and Social Studies lessons allowing for deeper learning in core content areas, improved school attendance and classroom engagement, and increased confidence and creative expression. Below are highlights from a year of music-making from students across 2nd through 12th grade.
Mel King South End Academy
"Art. Music. and the rest is history" is a testament to the transformative power of integrating the art and education. This book showcases the remarkable student-produced art and music at the Melvin H. King School, created through a unique partnership with the Boston Music Project. By infusing music-making into ELA and Social Studies lessons, we see students reflect deeply on their core academic studies and express their understanding through original music and art.
With the guidance of our dedicated Boston Music Project teaching artists, students are not just passive learners but active creators. They dive into their academic subjects, emerging with a richer, more profound comprehension and a newfound confidence in their creative abilities. Mel King Mixtape
Mel King Mixtape is a student-produced album that captures the impact the late Melvin H. King had on his community and the lasting effects of his visionary leadership and commitment to social justice.
Mel King SEA Elementary
Our digital music classes for elementary students introduce the basics of music through fun and engaging activities. Students at SEA Elementary learned about rhythm, melody, and simple musical notation, as well as explored a variety of instruments. These classes aimed to foster a love for music and creativity from an early age. Check out a sample of their work!
Mel King Prep
The the Mel King Prep, students have the opportunity to create original music using industry-standard software in their own music studio. "Best of 23/24" highlights a collection of samples and tracks that Mel King Prep students worked on during the school year.
