We are proud of these achievements, and know that they would not have been possible without the commitment of our Board of Directors, the Josiah Quincy Elementary School, and the generous support of people like you. Your support over the years has made it possible for BMP to continue to offer an enriching and high-impact music education for the young people we serve and provide a lasting impact on their lives, their families, and the greater Boston community.
Over the past seven years, BMP has been led by part-time Executive Director and Co-Founder Graciela Briceno. What does that mean? All fundraising and program leadership had been done within a limited number of hours per week. As BMP looked ahead to strengthen our promise to the students and families we serve, we recognized the need for a full-time Executive Director who could be devoted to strengthening BMP’s role in our community, build new relationships and partnerships, and amplify the inspiring work of our students and Teaching Artists.
It is with great excitement that I join the BMP community as Executive Director. For over a decade, I have served as an arts educator and leader in the Boston community, successfully establishing and developing music ecosystems throughout Boston and across the United States. Most recently, I served as Director of Community Engagement and Resident Artist for Conservatory Lab Charter School’s El Sistema Program and Music Director and Conductor of the Cape Youth Orchestra of the Cape Symphony and Conservatory. My experience in the classroom, on the podium, and as an arts advocate in our community has prepared me for this exciting new chapter and I look forward to all that we will accomplish by working together!
In addition, Andy Chau, who has served as our Mancini Orchestra Director for the past five years, has stepped into the role of Program Manager. Mr. Chau, in addition to his many years of teaching at BMP, also serves as the Associate Director of Career Services at Boston Conservatory at Berklee. We will greatly benefit from his deep understanding and oversight of BMP’s seven orchestras this year.
While leadership transitions can be challenging, these changes were conducted with careful consideration by our dedicated Board, who represent parents, school administrators, and community members. Graciela Briceno will continue to be engaged with the program and serve in an active leadership role on the BMP Board to ensure a smooth transition. The Board has also elected Shwetha Anandan and Robert Kordenbrock as Co-Chairs of the Board, whose leadership will help our organization grow and flourish. We look forward to your continued involvement and support of the long-term social-emotional and musical success of our students. With the new school year now in full swing, we hope you will take a moment to enjoy our 2017-18 Annual Report and look back on how your support and impact has shaped BMP over the past year.
