Margaret Madsen is a cellist and educator in the Boston area with a strong background in the Suzuki and El Sistema teaching philosophies. Using her considerable experience teaching cello, violin, and ESL, she aims to help each student grow as both a musician and a person. In addition to teaching with BMP, Madsen is also teaching cello at El Sistema Somerville, as well as accepting private students. She also helped to edit the Pattern Play for Strings pedagogical book series by Winifred Crock. Madsen has performed at Powell Hall, the Peabody Opera House, and the Chicago Symphony Center. She has recorded with the Chicago Composers Orchestra and the Berklee Scoring Sessions Program. Most recently, Madsen was principal cellist of the St. Louis Civic Orchestra. Madsen studied with Stephen Balderston at DePaul University and Rhonda Rider at the Boston Conservatory at Berklee. She enjoys hiking, knitting, and trying new musical instruments.
