BMP performs at the State House

Updated: Nov 13, 2020

At the invitation from State Representative Aaron Michelewitz, the Boston Music Project presented an afternoon of music with our Rimsky and Villa-Lobos Orchestras on Thursday, April 25th.

The performance took place at the lavish marble Grand Staircase of the historic Massachusetts State House. Our Rimsky Orchestra opened the program with four fun musical selections that showcased the students singing and playing ability. Each piece began with our K2 thru 2nd grade musicians singing the melody, followed by a performance of the song on their instruments. Our 42-piece, Villa-Lobos Orchestra filled the halls of the State House with a performance of Schubert's dynamic "Marche Militaire"to the renowned Parchelbel's "Canon in D". The program closed with a spirited performance of Brian Balmages "Spartucus," the same piece they performed at the Mayor's State of the City Address at Symphony Hall earlier this year.

After the performance, our group of nearly 100 students, staff, and parent chaperones were treated to a guided tour of the State House. We would like to thank State Representative Aaron Michelewitz for helping to make moments like this possible for out students!
