New Year, New Orchestra, Newbold Is Here!

At JQOP, all of our orchestras are named after prolific composers and celebrated performers, both past and present. From Mozart to Beethoven, Rimsky to Boulanger, these individuals and their music have made a lasting impact on performers and audiences alike. With the expansion of our program this year, now serving over 200 youth in our morning music program alone, we are excited to launch an eighth orchestra comprised of our top elementary-aged musicians. As our team brainstormed names for this orchestra, we sought to recognize a contemporary musician and composer who has contributed vas amounts of music to the youth orchestra community over the years and shares a similar spirt and commitment to music education as our JQOP team.

Soon Hee Newbold

It is with great pride and enthusiasm that we introduce our Newbold Orchestra, named after modern-day composer, conductor, musician, actress (and 3rd-degree black belt martial artist), Soon Hee Newbold.

Published through the FJH Music Company, Newbold’s compositions can be heard around the world in film, orchestras, and other performing groups. She frequently travels around the world as a guest composer and conductor and her works have been performed at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, and the Midwest Clinic.

Our JQOP team has great things in store for our Newbold musicians in the coming year so be sure to stay tuned! In the meantime, we invite you to enjoy a message from Soon Hee regarding this recognition from JQOP.
