SoundWaves: Premieres December 16th

SoundWaves presented by Boston Music Project

Premieres on December 16th @ 10AM (40 min program)

Join us as Boston Music Project presents "SoundWaves," a three-part virtual music series for our school partners. Our 40-minute December program features Boston Music Project teaching artists and select student performers. As a special feature, we are also showcasing two performances from The Celebrity Series of Boston's Neighborhood Arts Artists, Maria Finkelmeier's "Project Daydream" and chamber music performances by Hub New Music.

Celebrity Series: Neighborhood Arts

Neighborhood Arts engages Boston area performing artists to bring the joy of live performance to people of all ages and abilities. Drawing deeply on partnerships with community organizations, Neighborhood Arts activates neighborhoods with a rich and varied array of opportunities, including interactive workshops for youth, free and $5 community concerts in neighborhood venues, and free tickets to Celebrity Series main stage performances. While COVID-19 has disrupted our usual plans, we will still offer a robust 2020-21 season of Neighborhood Arts activities. Learn more about their programs and concert schedule here!

More About "Project Daydream"

Empowering imagination and relaxation through music, Project Daydream is an experience by Maria Finkelmeier with Timothy Hall. The 30 minute work will feature voice, marimba, saxophone and electronic music elements. Through five segments, listeners will be encouraged to explore their breath, their joy, their support system, and their own mantra. The music will encourage relaxation by infusing repetitive phrases, heartbeat rhythms, and soaring melodies. The program flow, developed in collaboration with Susan Lovett of Hands to Heart Center, takes listeners on a journey from a space of personal reflection to collective rejuvenation.

The complete 30-minute work premiered online on November 2, encouraging listeners to pause and breathe on the eve of the 2020 Election Day. The work was also streamed directly to schools and Community Centers throughout the month of November through the Celebrity Series of Boston, offering a special moment for our youth as they navigate the pandemic and difficulties that have plagued this year.

More about Hub New Music

Called “contemporary chamber trailblazers” by the Boston Globe, Hub New Music – composed of flute, clarinet, violin, and cello – is forging new pathways in 21st-century repertoire. The ensemble’s ambitious commissioning projects and “appealing programs” (New Yorker) celebrate the rich diversity of today’s classical music landscape. Its performances have been described as “gobsmacking” (Cleveland Classical), “innovative” (WBUR), and “the cutting edge of new classical music” (Taos News).

This past fall, the musicians of HNM worked with our elementary students on a music composition residency, "Hub Lab." Read more about this program here!
