This January, Teaching Artist and BMP Mentorship Program Director Melany Piech, traveled to San Juan, Puerto Rico to participate in Suzuki Violin Book 1 training with Ms. Linda Fiore. This foundational course trains teachers in starting a new student on violin in the systematic, step-by-step way informed by the philosophy of Dr. Shinichi Suzuki. Though she has taken other teacher training courses, this course exceeded the others in its depth, scope, organization and clarity. It advanced understanding of teaching violin in the early stages, particularly in regards to violin set-up and bow technique. She has been eager to continue learning about the Suzuki Method and to bring these ideas into her work with our youth musicians at BMP.
